COPING
How
do you cope with cancer?
The
answer is really simple.
It’s
like when you were a teenager
At
prom night with a pimple.
Even
though it was the “end of the world”
You
managed to live through it.
Just
find out what you have to do.
Then
go and do it.
And
though those things are difficult
Have
faith and continue on.
You’ll
make it through, the world won’t end
And
the cancer will be gone.
I
know this sounds too simple
When
there’s so much to worry about.
But
if you just concentrate on getting well Everything else will work out.

IN
AND OUT
When
you’re actually taking chemo
There’s a silly game you play.
I call it
“In and Out”
And you
play it every day.
You
measure all you drink and pee
Then write
it down for them to see.
At first
it seems an easy game
No need to
take alarm.
But then
they start to flush you out
So your
kidney has no harm.
Just how
often you could go
Before
this game you couldn’t know.
Almost
every hour
This silly
game you play.
I call it
“In and Out”
And you
play it night and day.
SAMPLE POEMS
FAITH
To think of one day dying
Can be a scary thought.
To think of what I’ve missed
Compared to all I’ve got.
To worry about my family
And how they will survive.
Will they have to suffer
Because I’m not alive?
But I’ve been quite lucky
In my life so far.
Even now with things
The way they are.
The cancer I am fighting
Is going to be cured.
I know it won’t kill me
Of this I’m assured.
I think how faith in living
Helps me to survive.
And the thought of one day dying
Makes me glad to be alive.
DON’T
WAIT
Everyone should have cancer once.
It makes everything else seem easy.
You’ll forget in a hurry
Your everyday worry
If tomorrow’s the last day you might see.
But I could never wish such a terrible thing
For anyone, friend or foe.
Please listen to me
You don’t want to be
The one that didn’t know.
You can only live once.
Just one chance to be great.
So make every day
Special some way.
Don’t wait until it’s too late!
